Our Fees
Arcady Hall operates under charitable status, which means that all the student fees are invested into the Hall to enhance student experience and facilities.
Your deposit payment includes a Residential Life fee. This is used to help fund the wide array of Arcady events offered throughout the year. Our comprehensive residential life programme, designed to ensure residents thrive academically and personally, includes multiple activities based around four key pillars: Live, Learn, Connect, and Support.
Our commitment and contract is for 39 weeks of the academic year.
Students may remain in residence during the mid-semester/mid-year breaks and holiday periods at no extra cost as it is included in the 39 week academic year contract.
The kitchen and dining room are fully operational for the 39 weeks, including vacation time, for three meals per day, plus study suppers during study weeks and examination periods.

Who is eligible?

Arcady Hall entrance scholarships are available for students commencing their first year of study towards an undergraduate degree at the University of Canterbury (UC) in 2026.

Arcady Hall scholarships may be held in conjunction with other awards, including UC Scholarships.

Applicants applying for an Arcady Hall scholarship via the UC Accommodation Office must select Arcady Hall as their first preference hall of residence to be eligible for a Hall scholarship

Applicants may apply for any number of Arcady Hall scholarships via this online form​.

Online applications will open on 01 August 2025 and will close on 19 September 2025.

Please note that we require applicants to ask their referee to complete the reference form and email it to the Arcady Hall Communications and Office Coordinator at office@arcadyhall.org.nz by 19 September 2025.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in early October 2025.

All scholarships will be awarded as a $2,000 credit toward the recipient’s Arcady Hall accommodation fees (on the April 2026 instalment payment date).
Churchill Julius and Warwick Sherwood Scholarships
Awarded to a student for their community contribution throughout their senior years at High School.
The primary selection criterion for these Scholarships is community service in the school environment and/or in other community-based groups and organisations. As an inclusive Hall that celebrates diversity, the Hall welcomes applications from individuals who have helped to make a positive difference to their chosen community. Applicants should also be of good academic standing.

Bishop Julius Academic Merit Scholarship
Awarded to a student for academic excellence throughout their senior years in High School.
The primary selection criterion for these scholarships is academic excellence as a senior high school student, as demonstrated by attainment in NCEA Levels 1 and 2, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International, or other educational qualifications obtained. Academic potential, passion, and commitment to university-level study, as evidenced by other information provided and the referee’s comments will also be considered.

Arcady Hall First in Family Scholarship
Awarded to a cisgender or transgender female student for academic excellence as a senior high school student in a STEM subject.
The primary selection criterion for this Scholarship is academic excellence during senior high school years in one or more STEM subject(s) such as Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Product Design, and Digital Humanities. Academic potential and passion for degree-level study in the subject(s), as evidenced by other information provided and the referee’s comments will also be considered.
Awarded to an NZ citizen or permanent resident who is the first member of their immediate family to enroll in a degree-level qualification.
This scholarship is to assist a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who is the first member of their immediate family (including siblings/step-siblings and parents) to attend university and who, because of financial hardship may not otherwise be able to undertake a university degree. The selection criteria are academic merit, motivation to succeed, and demonstrated financial hardship. Applicants are required to provide a declaration indicating that no members of their immediate family have been awarded a university degree level qualification.

Arcady Hall Alumni Scholarship
Awarded to an NZ citizen or permanent resident who is a direct descendant (e.g. son or daughter/ granddaughter or grandson), or a sibling of a Bishop Julius or Arcady Hall alumnus.
The selection criteria for this award are academic achievement of Merit or higher at NCEA level 2, or in an equivalent qualification, and the applicant's community contribution throughout their High School years within the school environment, or in another community organisation.
